Earlier this year Arinda Lord, a former JJ head boy, represented his university at the 2024 “Unwanted Witness Moot Court” competition in Kampala. Arinda, who had secured a bursary to study law at King Caesar University in Kampala, was selected to be part of the university team participating in the moot court competition. He was recognised as the second best oralist in Uganda and progressed to the next round of the competition in Nairobi, where the team were placed fourth, behind two Kenyan universities and Uganda Christian University. In January, he has the opportunity to progress even further, having heard recently that he has been selected to compete in the UK!
Arinda grew up near JJ’s primary and secondary schools, and is the third in a family of six. JJ supported him from Primary One right the way through to Senior Six (A Levels) and he then secured a bursary to cover university tuition fees. Before participating in the competition he returned to JJ and spent much of the long holiday between his first two years at university helping to fill staffing gaps at the primary school. Thus he was able to encourage and inspire those following in his footsteps at JJ while also earning some much needed income towards his accommodation costs for his second year at university.
